Amalia RAMANANKIRAHINA

Born in 1963, Amalia Ramanankirahina lives and works in Paris. After a Ph.D. on Malagasy cultural heritage, she teaches in Paris I university and at the National Institute for Heritage and collaborates with the Quai Branly Museum. The memory of a great grandfather Malagasy painter, actor of the French colony is part of her involvement into heritage protection and artistic practice. In Paris in the 90s, she was active in alternative associations as "Europe Factory," « Gare aux mouvements » and « Gaz à tous les étages » creating happenings in public space. In 2009 after a solo exhibition in Brussels, she took part in the Biennale d’Issy les Moulineaux (France) and in 2010 in the Dakar Biennale.

« Monument » : "During my last trip to Madagascar in 2010, I retrieved my family portraits and biographical books of my great grandfather, dating back a century. From his traces of colonial days, I try to reactivate a memory, fantasized and true, which mixes intimate and historical spectra.”
