Born in 1955 in Sfax ( Tunisia), lives and works in Bern (Switzerland).

Trained at first in the School of Fine Arts of Tunis, she follows a training course of cartoon in Poland. She obtains then a Doctorate of 3rd Cycle in Aesthetics and Sciences of Art from the University of Paris 1, Sorbonne (France) then does a training course in the Institute of Visual Art of Geneva (Switzerland).

Already selected in the Biennale DAK’ART 98, Prize of the jury of the International Biennale of Contemporary Art of Alexandria (Egypt) she is in 2000, at the beginning of a new millennium, the first woman to receive Grand Prix Léopold Sédar SENGHOR. Fatma CHARFI will return in the official selection of the Biennale in 2002 and 2004.

Using very contemporary materials, Fatma CHARFI populates her world of small characters, twists of silk paper, abérics, (Abrouc in the singular), enactments of our plural humanity, to give to the world her message of peace and love.
