Moataz NASR

Moataz Nasr was born in 1961 in Alexandria, Egypt and currently lives in Cairo. He took part to several Biennales: Venice, Seoul, Saõ Paulo, Lubumbashi and Thessaloniki. He also has participated in several group shows including: « Africa Remix » (Düsseldorf, London, Paris, Tokyo, Johannesburg), « Ghosts of Self and State and Monash » at University Museum of Art in Melbourne, International Festival of Video Art in Casablanca, « Taswir, Islamische Bildwelten und moderne » at Martin-Gropius-Bau in Berlin and « Time After Time: Actions and Interactions » at Southern Exposure in San Francisco. Audio and video installations are often based on ancient Egyptian proverbs. He asks questions as universal as: who are we exactly when we say ‘I’?

« Merge & Emerge »: by dancing, whirling in concentric circles in which they become lost, cancelling out the centrifugal and centripetal forces, Sufis reach a degree of concentration which allows them to forget weight and to access other mental heights that the mind alone is not able to reach. There are three of them, a magic number which signifies perfect balance.
