Sylvester Mqeku est né à Mount Fletcher, une petite ville située en bordure de la province du Cap-Oriental, en Afrique du Sud, au cœur des collines présentes le long des montagnes Drakensberg. Il s’installa ensuite à Umtata, où il fût diplômé du secondaire. Zanoxolo Mqeku a ensuite intégré la Nelson Mandela University Port Elizabeth South Africa, où il a étudié l’art puis l’Architectural Technology. Après deux années passées à étudier le design architectural, Mqeku retourne à l’Ecole d’Art et Design. En 2009 il a validé une formation de deux ans dédiée à la peinture, au graphisme, à la photographie, à la sculpture, à la céramique, au dessin et à la théorie artistique.

Sylvester Mqeku was born in Mount Fletcher, a small town on the edges of the Eastern Cape province of South Africa in the hills that scatter along the Drakensberg mountains. He later moved to Umtata, a larger town, where he graduated from high school. Zanoxolo Mqeku began his tertiary education at the Nelson Mandela University Port Elizabeth South Africa, studying for a foundation certificate in art moving on to study Architectural Technology the following year. After two years of architectural design work, Mqeku discontinued and went back to the school of art and design. In 2009, he completed two years of introductory art and design studies, his qualification comprised of Painting, Graphic Design, Photography, Sculpture, Ceramic Design, Drawing and Art Theory.
