Vanessa Amoah Opoku and Joy Weinberger develop a collaborative practice at the intersection of digital imaging, installation, and textile. In their project Bricks and Cement Don’t Make a House, they take as their starting point Opoku’s Ghanaian family history and combine 3D point-cloud scans, sound archives, family photographs, sculptural structures, and woven textiles. Opoku uses digital capture technologies to explore the fragility and incompleteness of diasporic experiences, while Weinberger, a textile artist and designer, translates digital fragments into woven structures, articulating analogue processes and computational technologies. Presented notably in Leipzig, then in Relations in Place at the Bärenzwinger in Berlin in 2025–2026, their work interrogates migration, home, memory, intergenerational transmission, and the fragile infrastructures of belonging.
