Viyé Diba (né le 31 décembre 1954 à Karantaba au Sénégal) est diplômé de l’école normale supérieure d’éducation artistique de Dakar et de l’école pilote internationale d’art et de recherche de la villa Arson à Nice. Il prépare ensuite un troisième cycle en géographie à l’université de Nice sur le thème « salubrité et esthétique urbaine ». Il a été professeur à l’École Nationale des Arts de Dakar où il a participé à la formation de plusieurs générations d’artistes. Diba est aussi un artiste très à l’écoute de son milieu et particulièrement attaché à ses valeurs. Il s’emploie dans sa démarche à interroger la matière, à déstructurer les canons esthétiques et à définir, en fonction des réalités propres, concepts et référents correspondant mieux à notre représentation du monde, à notre style de vie et à nos aspirations les plus intimes. Son travail est présenté dans de nombreuses expositions à travers le monde et figure dans plusieurs collections individuelles et institutionnelles. Lauréat du grand prix Léopold Sédar Senghor de la biennale de Dakar en 1998, Viyé DIBA vit et travaille à Dakar.
Viyé Diba (born December 31, 1954 in Karantaba, Senegal) is a graduate of the Ecole Normale Supérieure d’Education Artistique in Dakar and of the Ecole Pilote Internationale d’Art et de Recherche de la Villa Arson in Nice. He then prepared a post-graduate degree in geography at the University of Nice on the topic of « urban health and aesthetics ». He was a professor at the National School of Arts in Dakar where he participated in the training of several generations of artists. Diba is also an artist very attentive to his environment and particularly attached to his values. His approach is to question the material, to destructure the aesthetic canons and to define according to our own realities, concepts and referents that correspond better to our representation of the world, our lifestyle and our most intimate aspirations. His work is presented in numerous exhibitions around the world and is included in several individual and institutional collections.Winner of the Grand Prix Léopold Sédar Senghor of the Dakar Biennale in 1998, Viyé DIBA lives and works in Dakar.
