Ilhem Ellouze est née en 1957 à Sfax en Tunisie. Elle y passe son enfance et son adolescence puis part en France pour poursuivre des études d’ Arts Plastiques à l’université de Paris 1 Panthéon Sorbonne où elle obtiendra en 1984 son Diplôme d’Etudes Approfondies. En 1986, elle retourne en Tunisie où elle fera sa première exposition personnelle à la galerie Médina à Tunis et où elle rencontrera la critique d’art Sophie El Goulli. Jusqu’ à cette période, sa peinture de facture expressionniste aborde des thèmes engagés et féministes. Elle retourne s’ installer en France à Belfort en 1988 où elle invente son »MODULE », élément composé de trois cônes renvoyant à la forme humaine qui sera le corps de son travail à l’intérieur d’un système répétitif d’accumulation de signes saturant l’espace. Elle travaille comme enseignante à l’ école des Beaux Arts de Belfort puis comme formatrice en Arts Plastiques à la DFP de cette ville et participe à de nombreuses expositions en France et à l’ étranger jusqu’en 2000. En 2001, elle est victime d’ un accident et perd partiellement la vue ce qui mettra son activité artistique en suspens jusqu’en 2007 date à laquelle elle participe sous l’impulsion de la galeriste Guiesella Schröder à une nouvelle exposition qui lui permettra en dépassant son handicap de reprendre le cours de son travail. Entre 2010 et 2011 la ville de Lure lui accorde une résidence dans un atelier aux Écuries. Actuellement, Ilhem Ellouze travaille entre Ronchamp en France et Nabeul en Tunisie.
Ilhem Ellouze was born in 1957 in Sfax, Tunisia. She spent her Childhood and teenage years there before going to France to carry on her Plastic Arts studies at The University of Paris 1 Panthéon Sorbonne where she obtained her In-depth studies diploma. In 1986, she moved back to Tunisia where she held her first solo exhibitions at the Medina gallery in Tunis and met the art critic Sophie El Goulli. Until this point, her paintings are expressionist and adress engaged and feminist themes.She returns to Belfort, France in 1988 where she invents her « MODULE », an element composed of three cones reminiscent of the human form which will be the essential part of her work within a repetitive system of signs accumulation saturating space. She worked as a teacher at The School of Fine Arts of Belfort and then as a trainer in Plastic arts at that city’s DFP and participated in numerous art exhibitions across France and abroad until 2000. In 2001, she had an accident that caused her a partial sight loss suspended her artistic activity until 2007 when she took part in a new exhibition at the behest of gallerist Guisella Schröder, which allowed her to surpass her handicap and resume the course of her work. Between 2010 and 2011, the city of Lure granted her a residency in a workshop at the « Stables ». Ilhem Ellouze currently works between Ronchamp in France and Nabeul in Tunisia.
