Passionné par les cultures afro-caribéennes depuis toujours, Mathieu pose le pied en Afrique pour la première fois en 2009, à Bamako. Il y découvre un ailleurs fait de partage, de fraternité, de discussions passionnées et de paysages grandioses dont il tombe amoureux et qui le pousseront à retourner explorer toute la richesse de l’Afrique. Le tissu est pour lui le symbole de cette vie colorée, chantante et dansante. Ses motifs traditionnels incarnent l’essence même des identités africaines. Il souhaite raconter des histoires tant ancestrales que contemporaines, celles d’une Afrique qui grandit, se transforme et se diffuse à travers le monde, à la fois riche de coutumes et de sa jeunesse innovante. En 2019, il obtient le prix de l’œuvre figurative au concours Miramar (oeuvre « Beauté Noire »), participe au Gemlucart à Monaco et expose au Radisson Blue de Nice. En juin 2021, à Cannes, il est le lauréat du concours international des artistes Miramar pour son œuvre «Ebonee». Il expose en tant qu’invité d’honneur à l’inauguration du Centre International des Arts et de la Culture (CIAC) à Dakar le 28 décembre 2021.
Always fascinated by Afro-Caribbean cultures, Mathieu set foot in Africa for the first time in 2009, in Bamako. There he discovers an elsewhere made of sharing, fraternity, passionate discussions and grandiose landscapes with which he falls in love and which will push him to return to explore all the richness of Africa. The fabric is for him the symbol of this colorful, singing and dancing life. Its traditional motifs embody the very essence of African identities. He wishes to tell both ancestral and contemporary stories, those of an Africa that is growing, transforming and spreading throughout the world, both rich in customs and of its innovative youth. In 2019, he won the prize for the figurative work at the Miramar competition (work « Beauté Noire »), participated in the Gemlucart in Monaco and exhibited at the Radisson Blue in Nice. In June 2021, in Cannes, he was the winner of the Miramar international artists’ competition for his work « Ebonee ». He exhibited as guest of honor at the inauguration of the International Center for Arts and Culture (CIAC) in Dakar on December 28, 2021.
