Aboubakry et Hélène se rencontrent en 2018 dans une friche artistique à Paris. Tous deux sont proches des matériaux naturels : Aboubakry est ébéniste et Hélène travaille la céramique et le dessin. Très vite, ils vont chercher comment fusionner leurs savoir-faire pour créer une alliance intercontinentale. Persuadés que l’artiste est la main gauche et l’artisan la main droite, ils collaborent aussi bien sur des créations artisanales de mobiliers uniques que sur des œuvres d’art contemporain. Les récits de Aboubakry sur le Sénégal sont principalement les sources d’inspiration artistique et historique du duo. Pour la Dak’art Biennale 2022, ils ont rendu hommage à Sérigne Touba, grand résistant sénégalais de la colonisation française au début du XXème siècle.
Aboubakry and Hélène met in 2018 in an art wasteland in Paris. Both are close to natural materials: Aboubakry is a cabinetmaker and Hélène works with ceramics and drawing. Very quickly, they will look for ways to merge their know-how to create an intercontinental alliance. Convinced that the artist is the left hand and the craftsman the right hand, they collaborate as much on handcrafted creations of unique furniture as on contemporary artworks. Aboubakry’s stories of Senegal are the duo’s main sources of artistic and historical inspiration. For the Dak’art Biennale 2022, they paid tribute to Serigne Touba, a great Senegalese resistance fighter against French colonization in the early 20th century.
