Philosophe de formation, il soutient son doctorat sur l’Histoire de l’Art contemporain cubain en 2018 et est nommé maître de conférences l’année suivante. Il enseigne depuis à La Sorbonne l’art latino-américain et les théories postcoloniales de langue castillane. Il combine depuis 2013 ses activités de recherche avec la critique d’art et l’organisation d’expositions et d’évènements en rapports avec l’art latino-américain dans des galeries et des institutions internationales, en privilégiant une approche sensible aux enjeux environnementaux, sociaux et politiques. Originaire de Barcelone, il vit actuellement à Paris.
Trained in philosophy, he defended his Ph.D. dissertation on Cuban contemporary art history in 2018 and is named associate professor at the Sorbonne the following year. He teaches Latin American art and Spanish language postcolonial theories. Since 2013, in addition to research, David Castañer worked as an art critic and organized exhibitions and events related to Latin American art in galleries and international institutions, emphasizing on an approach sensible to environmental, social, and political issues. Originally hailing from Barcelona, he lives in Paris now.
