Soly Cissé est diplomé de l’école des Beaux-Arts de Dakar, dont il est sorti major de sa
promotion. Enfant, Soly s’amusait à dessiner sur les radios que son père, radiologue, ramenait chez lui. Aujourd’hui, il est toujours fasciné par les transparences, la lumière s’imposant sur l’obscurité, l’essence des couleurs. Lorsqu’il peint, son pinceau révèle une scène, apporte la lumière sur une histoire, et libère les personnages prisonniers du fond noir. Soly refuse l’imitation et abhorre l’illustration. Chaque œuvre est création. Chaque œuvre donne naissance à un nouveau monde, à de nouvelles créatures ni complètement humaines, ni complètement animales, ni complètement légendaires. Soly Cissé peint au pinceau, à la main, et au couteau. Il est aussi excellent dessinateur. Le public a aussi récemment découvert ses extraordinaires sculptures en métal. Soly est artiste reconnu dans le monde de l’art. Sa réputation a traversé les frontières et son travail a été montré dans de nombreuses expositions (France, Italie, Allemagne, Suisse, Espagne etc.). Il a par exemple pris part à l’exposition Africa Remix (Centre Pompidou, Hayward gallery), qui a connu un succès international.
Soly Cissé is a graduate of the School of Fine Arts in Dakar, from which he graduated at the top of his class.
