Le travail de Laila Hida explore à travers des projets individuels et collectifs des espaces non négociés et des pratiques sociales marginalisées. Ses interventions transdisciplinaires explorent et questionnent le médium photographique dans la construction des imaginaires et des récits. Son projet actuel Everything is temporary s’appuie sur ses archives personnelles textuelles et photographiques, pour esquisser une archéologie de l’intime à travers un rapport au temps et à la rupture. Elle développe à travers cette même méthodologie le projet collectif About Us, avec les mamans douées de la Fondation Dar Bellarj, qui explore l’évolution de la pratique photographique sur 50 ans en s’appuyant sur l’archive personnelle, l’album de famille et la photographie vernaculaire. En 2013, Hida initie LE 18, un espace d’art multidisciplinaire basé à Marrakech. Le “18” prolonge ainsi son intention à long terme de questionner et explorer l’impact de l’environnement sur les approches artistiques, de médiation et de recherche. La programmation du 18 et son évolution en plateforme collective offrent un espace où artistes, commissaires et chercheurs peuvent expérimenter, apprendre et partager des connaissances et des expériences par le biais d’expositions, de rencontres, d’ateliers et de résidences, afin de créer des réseaux sociaux et créatifs profitant aux communautés locales.
Born in 1983, Hida lives and works in Marrakesh, Morocco. Laila Hida’s conceptual work explores the boundaries of photographic practice, non-negotiated spaces of social practices, as well as the idea of transformation as a fixed constant of time. As an example, her project ‘Tout est Temporaire’ (2019) uses her personal archives (textual, photographic) to sketch out an archeology of intimacy by observing the effects of psychology and time on the maturation of a work of art. With ‘The Long and Slow Decay of Things’ (2018), she explores the decay of objects and places left obsolete by urbanization projects. In 2013, Laila Hida founded LE 18, Derb el Ferrane, a multidisciplinary art space for artists, curators, researchers, cultural workers and local communities. LE 18 extends Hida’s artistic work in the form of cultural entrepreneurship and functions as a space for learning, experimenting and sharing around issues such as the role of the arts in the evolution of sociocultural ecosystems or the effects of global tourism in shaping local landscapes and their perceptions.
