Masud Olufani est un acteur, artiste multimédia et écrivain basé à Atlanta, dont la pratique artistique est ancrée dans la discipline de la sculpture. Il est diplômé du Morehouse College et de la Savannah College of Art and Design, où il a obtenu un M.F.A. en sculpture en 2013.
Masud Olufani a exposé son travail lors d’expositions collectives et personnelles aux niveaux national et international. Il effectue des résidences au Vermont Studio Center, au Hambidge Center for Arts and Sciences et à Creative Currents à Portobello, Panama. Il est récipiendaire d’une bourse South Arts Cross Sector Grant 2020 pour Elder, une installation spécifique au site créée pour coïncider avec la rénovation de l’historique David T. Howard School à Atlanta. Masud est également Fellow d’État du prix Southern Arts Prize 2018 et lauréat d’une subvention Idea Capital en 2015 et 2018.
Il est le directeur créatif de “Blocked: A Global Healing Project”, une performance multimédia créée pour commémorer les espaces marqués par le traumatisme de la traite transatlantique des esclaves. En tant qu’écrivain, Masud a publié des articles pour Burnaway et Baha’i Teachings, et contribue régulièrement au catalogue de la série Struggle de Jacob Lawrence, produit pour coïncider avec une exposition majeure des peintures de la série Struggle.
Masud Olufani is an Atlanta-based actor, multimedia artist, and writer whose artistic practice is rooted in the discipline of sculpture. He is a graduate of Morehouse College and the Savannah College of Art and Design, where he received an M.F.A. in sculpture in 2013.
Masud Olufani has exhibited his work in group and solo exhibitions nationally and internationally. He holds residencies at the Vermont Studio Center, the Hambidge Center for Arts and Sciences, and Creative Currents in Portobello, Panama. He is the recipient of a 2020 South Arts Cross Sector Grant for Elder, a site-specific installation created to coincide with the renovation of the historic David T. Howard School in Atlanta. Masud Olufani is also a State Fellow of the 2018 Southern Arts Prize and an Idea Capital grant recipient in 2015 and 2018.
He is the creative director of “Blocked: A Global Healing Project,” a multimedia performance created to commemorate spaces marked by the trauma of the transatlantic slave trade. As a writer, Masud Olufani has published articles for Burnaway and Baha’i Teachings, and regularly contributes to Jacob Lawrence’s Struggle Series catalogue, produced to coincide with a major exhibition of Struggle Series paintings.
