Pascal Konan est un artiste ivoirien, né en 1979 à Abidjan. Il étudie à l’École Nationale des Beaux-Arts de la même ville et enseigne aujourd’hui la peinture dans cette institution. Ses peintures sont le reflet d’une émotion particulière, celle générée par les villes africaines avec leur affluence, leurs sons et leurs odeurs. Konan tire son inspiration à la fois de sa propre enfance heureuse et de la précarité face à l’urbanisation galopante.
Sa démarche artistique se concentre sur la compréhension de l’âme humaine à travers l’observation de la vie collective dans les rues d’Abidjan. Il explore la manière dont les identités se développent au sein de l’espace public, oscillant entre le privé et le public. Les rues africaines deviennent une métaphore de l’identité en perpétuel mouvement.
Pascal Konan est également un artiste engagé qui prône l’action individuelle pour promouvoir l’humanisme, surtout dans un contexte marqué par les inégalités sociales et la détérioration des conditions de vie. Son travail a été récompensé par plusieurs prix et distinctions, dont le prix UEMOA à la 10e biennale de DAK’ART en 2012 et le prix Christian Latier en 2014, qui lui a permis de réaliser une résidence à la Cité Internationale des Arts de Paris.
Pascal Konan is an Ivorian artist, born in 1979 in Abidjan. He studied at the National School of Fine Arts in the same city and today teaches painting at this institution. His paintings are the reflection of a particular emotion, that generated by African cities with their affluence, their sounds and their smells. Konan draws his inspiration both from his own happy childhood and from the precariousness of rapid urbanization.
His artistic approach focuses on understanding the human soul through the observation of collective life in the streets of Abidjan. He explores how identities develop within public space, oscillating between the private and the public. African streets become a metaphor for identity in perpetual movement.
Pascal Konan is also a committed artist who advocates individual action to promote humanism, especially in a context marked by social inequalities and the deterioration of living conditions. His work has been recognized by several prizes and distinctions, including the UEMOA prize at the 10th DAK’ART biennial in 2012 and the Christian Latier prize in 2014, which allowed him to carry out a residency at the Cité Internationale des Arts in Paris.
