Rashid Diab (né en 1957 à Wad Madani, au Soudan) est un peintre, graveur et historien de l’art soudanais. Après une licence avec mention en peinture au College of Fine and Applied Art de Khartoum en 1978, il poursuit ses études en Espagne grâce à une bourse, où il obtient des maîtrises en peinture et en gravure puis, en 1991, un doctorat à l’Université Complutense de Madrid avec une thèse portant sur la tradition et la contemporanéité dans la peinture soudanaise. Il y enseigne ensuite jusqu’à son retour à Khartoum en 1999. Au Soudan, il fonde la Dara Art Gallery puis, en 2005, le Rashid Diab Arts Centre, consacré à la création, à la transmission et au développement social. Contraint de fuir le Soudan en avril 2023 en raison de la guerre, il réside désormais à Madrid.
Rashid Diab (born in 1957 in Wad Madani, Sudan) is a Sudanese painter, printmaker, and art historian. After graduating with honours in painting from the College of Fine and Applied Art in Khartoum in 1978, he continued his studies in Spain on a scholarship, earning master’s degrees in painting and printmaking and, in 1991, a doctorate from the Complutense University of Madrid with a thesis on tradition and contemporaneity in Sudanese painting. He subsequently taught there until returning to Khartoum in 1999. In Sudan, he founded Dara Art Gallery and, in 2005, the Rashid Diab Arts Centre, devoted to creation, transmission, and social development. Forced to flee Sudan in April 2023 because of the war, he now lives in Madrid.
