Lara Sousa, originaire du Mozambique, a étudié le documentaire à l’EICTV (Cuba). Les courts-métrages de Lara Sousa ont une esthétique essayiste et autoréférentielle. Elle combine sa vision politique avec un langage poétique, à la recherche d’un « non-lieu » entre le Mozambique et d’autres réalités. Les films de Lara ont été sélectionnés pour plusieurs festivals, dont le Fespaco 2021 et la Biennale 2022 de Dakar. Elle a été sélectionnée à ColabNowNow – British Council Digital Arts Residence en tant que conteuse d’Afrique australe et a récemment été sélectionnée à Berlinale Talent Campus et à Talent Campus DocStation. Son projet Katalina, Kalunga, Karonga – Sea Waved Tales a remporté le Digital Lab Africa dans la catégorie Art numérique. Elle est actuellement en train de produire : « The Ship and the Sea » (sélectionné à DocStation Belinale 2020 ; et financé par Sundance Documentary Programme 2021) ; « We, People of the Islands » (sélectionné à DFM 2021, et financé par HDBIF 2021).
