Syowia Kyambi est une artiste interdisciplinaire et commissaire d’exposition. Elle est titulaire d’un MFA du Transart Institute (2020) et d’un BFA de la School of the Art Institute of Chicago (2002). Incorporant la photographie, la vidéo, le dessin, le son, la sculpture et l’installation de performance, son approche vise la politique de l’époque ainsi que son héritage aujourd’hui. Ce dont on se souvient, ce qui est archivé, et comment nous voyons le monde à nouveau. Syowia est basée à Nairobi et est d’origine kényane et allemande. Elle est lauréate de la bourse du Centre for Art Design & Social Research (cycle 2018-2020), de la bourse UniArts Helsinki (2018), de la Smithsonian Artist Research Fellowship (2017) et de la bourse Art in Global Health du Wellcome Trust Fund au Royaume-Uni (2013). Parmi ses résidences d’artiste, citons PRAKSIS, Norvège (2019), HIAP, Finlande (2018), la Fondation Delfina, Royaume- Uni (2016) et IASPIS, Suède (2013). Ses œuvres font partie de plusieurs collections privées et publiques, notamment la Robert Devereux Collection, Londres, la Kouvola Art Museum Collection, Finlande, et le Nairobi National Museum, Kenya, ainsi que de la Sindika Dokolo Foundation.

 

Syowia Kyambi is an interdisciplinary artist and curator. She holds an MFA from Transart Institute (2020) and a BFA from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago (2002). Incorporating photography, video, drawing, sound, sculpture and performance installation, her approach takes aim at the politics of the time as well as its legacy today. What is remembered, what is archived, and how we see the world anew. Syowia is based in Nairobi and of Kenyan/German origin. She is the recipient of the Centre for Art Design & Social Research fellowship (2018-2020 cycle), the UniArts Helsinki fellowship (2018), the Smithsonian Artist Research Fellowship (2017) and the Art in Global Health grant from the Wellcome Trust Fund in the United Kingdom (2013). Artist residencies include PRAKSIS, Norway (2019), HIAP, Finland (2018), Delfina Foundation, UK (2016) and IASPIS, Sweden (2013). Her work is held in a number of private and public collections including the Robert Devereux Collection, London, the Kouvola Art Museum Collection, Finland, and the Nairobi National Museum, Kenya and with the Sindika Dokolo Foundation.
