Katharina Lökenhoff est une artiste allemande installée à Essen. Née en mai 1969 dans une famille de collectionneurs d’art, elle a étudié l’art, la philosophie et la pédagogie. Ses propres expériences et sa vie de famille en tant que mère de deux jeunes filles aujourd’hui femmes ont toujours fait partie de son activité artistique, comme une sorte de processus parallèle. En plus de sa thèse de doctorat sur « Le sens de la couleur en relation avec le concept de symbole de Goethe et Beuys » à l’Université de Witten, elle a également organisé plusieurs expositions au Kunsthaus Essen. Depuis août 2018, elle voyage en Islande, Finlande, Egypte, Liban et Afrique du Sud pour son projet de recherche artistique « Crossing ». Sa démarche est d’amener différents artistes, de différentes cultures à se questionner afin de pouvoir échanger et partager autour de la nécessité du dépassement des frontières pour la construction d’un avenir durable. En lien avec ce thème, elle travaille sur des membranes de cire symbolisant la peau comme médiateur transitoire entre le monde intérieur et extérieur reflétant ces deux facettes. Elle est très impliquée dans son travail, afin de transmettre différents niveaux d’être, de conscience et de culture.
Katharina Lökenhoff is a German artist based in Essen. Born in May 1969 into an arts collectors‘ family, she studied Arts, Philosophy and Pedagogy. Her own teachings and even her former family life as being a mother of two now grown up young women have always been part of her artistic activities, as a kind of parallel process. While working on her PhD thesis on “Colour sense in relation to Goethe’s und Beuys’ symbol concept” at Witten University, she also curated some exhibitions at“Kunsthaus Essen.” From August 2018 she was on a journey for her artistic research project “Crossing”, travelling to Iceland, Finland, Egypt, Lebanon and South Africa. It is her intention to have an international exchange in interviews with other artists about the issue of overcoming borders as a necessity to enable a sustainable future. In line with this topic, she is working on Membranes made of wax skin as transformation tools with a material, which mirrors the theme of crossing thresholds in the phenomenon of the skin as an intermediary between the inner and outer world. In her work, she is very much involved in conveying different levels of being, consciousness and cultures.
