Barthélémy Toguo est né à M’balmayo au Cameroun. Il poursuit une formation académique aux Beaux-Arts d’Abidjan, de Grenoble et enfin à la Kunstakademie de Düsseldorf. Barthélémy Toguo alterne sculptures, installations, peintures, dessins et performances. Bandjoun Station, sa fondation, accueille dans des logements-ateliers, des artistes et des chercheurs du monde entier pour développer des propositions avec la communauté locale, y compris des projets d’agriculture. Barthélémy Toguo a acquis une renommée internationale. Depuis les années 1990, ses œuvres sont remarquées par plusieurs critiques et conservateurs comme : Hans Ulrich Obrist en 1999 pour « Migrateurs » (ARC, Paris), Jean-Hubert Martin en 2000 pour « Partage d’exotismes » (Biennale de Lyon), Pierre Restany en 2001 pour Political Ecology (White Box, New York), Simon Njami en 2005, pour « Africa Remix », Okwui Enwezor en 2015 pour la Biennale de Venise, « All the World’s Future ». Jacob Fabricius en 2020 Biennale de Busan /Corée « Words at an exhibition in ten chapters and five poems », José Roca en 2022 Biennale de Sidney. En 2016, Barthélémy Toguo a fait partie des quatre artistes finalistes du prix Marcel Duchamp. Il a exposé l’installation « Vaincre le virus » au Centre Pompidou. La RATP lui commande une fresque en céramique pour la rénovation de la station de métro Château-Rouge à Paris. En 2021, Barthelemy Toguo est nommé Ambassadeur de la Paix par la directrice générale de l’UNESCO.

Barthélémy Toguo was born in M’balmayo in Cameroon. He pursued an academic training at the Beaux-Arts of Abidjan, Grenoble and finally at the Kunstakademie of Düsseldorf. Barthélémy Toguo alternates between sculptures, installations, paintings, drawings and performances. Bandjoun Station, his foundation, welcomes artists and researchers from around the world to develop proposals with the local community, including agricultural projects. Barthélémy Toguo has acquired an international reputation. In 2016, Barthélémy Toguo was one of the four finalist artists for the Marcel Duchamp Prize. He exhibited the installation « Vaincre le virus » at the Centre Pompidou. The RATP commissioned him to paint a ceramic fresco for the renovation of the Château-Rouge metro station in Paris. In 2021, Barthelemy Toguo is appointed Ambassador of Peace by the UNESCO Director General.
