Mugabo Baritegera est un artiste visuel né en 1990 à Goma, dans l’est de la République Démocratique du Congo (RDC). Il se distingue en tant que réalisateur et photographe, notamment pour son film « Mwana Pwo » réalisé en 2019.
Ses expressions artistiques sont variées, allant de la photographie à la peinture, en passant par l’installation vidéo et le cinéma. Il puise son inspiration dans l’espace urbain et le street art. Son travail est axé sur la préservation du patrimoine culturel congolais et le processus de décolonisation, tant sur le plan structurel que mental. Dans la continuité de son engagement, il fonde le centre culturel Ndoto art activism.
En 2016, il publie son premier livre photo Watu na balabala, hommage vibrant à la ville de Goma. En 2017, il crée la première galerie d’art contemporain à Goma la « Gomart gallery » qui est un lieu de regroupement d’échanges culturels de toutes les classes de la communauté.
Mugabo Baritegera is a visual artist born in 1990 in Goma, in the east of the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC). He has made a name for himself as a director and photographer, most notably with his film “Mwana Pwo” from 2019.
His artistic forms of expression are diverse and range from photography and painting to video installation and cinema. He draws his inspiration from urban space and street art. His work focuses on the preservation of Congolese cultural heritage and the process of decolonization, both structurally and mentally. To continue his commitment, he founded the cultural centre Ndoto art activism.
In 2016, he published his first photo book Watu na balabala, a vivid homage to the city of Goma. In 2017, he founded the first contemporary art gallery in Goma, the “Gomart gallery”, which is a place of cultural exchange for all sections of the population.
